Preparing Your Home
for a Bathroom Remodel

Four to seven working days with a crew in your house. This short list keeps those days calm.

Demo day arrives faster than most people expect. We give you the schedule with the quote, so you will know the date well ahead, and the week before is when a little work on your end saves a lot of friction on ours.

A standard full bathroom takes four to seven working days start to walk-through. That is four to seven days of one bathroom being unusable, a crew moving through one hallway, and dust wanting to travel. Everything below exists to keep those three things contained.

Clear the room down to bare fixtures

Empty the bathroom down to bare fixtures. Anything left behind collects fine dust that works into every seam.

  • Toiletries, towels, and anything on a shelf or windowsill
  • Cabinets and drawers, including the vanity you are keeping
  • Mirrors, art, and anything hanging on a shared wall, since demo carries vibration through framing
  • Shower curtains, rods, and bath mats

If a vanity or medicine cabinet is staying, tell us. We will protect it. If it is going, leave it and we will haul it.

Sort out where you will shower

One bathroom down for a week is the part people underestimate. Work it out before demo rather than the night of.

  • A second bathroom in the house, if you have one
  • A gym, a family member, or a neighbor for the days the shower is out
  • A small kit of toothbrushes and soap kept outside the work zone, so nobody walks into a torn-out room at 6 a.m.

On most jobs the toilet goes back in service sooner than the shower. We will tell you which days are which when we hand you the schedule.

Give us a path

We cover the route ourselves, floors and doorways both, and we clean at the end of every day. What helps is keeping that route short and clear.

  • Move furniture out of the hallway between the entry door and the bathroom
  • Clear a parking spot near the door for material and debris runs
  • Point us at the breaker panel and the main water shutoff on day one
  • Put pets somewhere quiet, since the doors open and close all day
Dust is not a sign we are being careless. It is a sign a shower is coming apart. Containment is the answer, and that part is on us.

Decide the finishes before demo

The single biggest cause of a stalled bathroom is a tile or fixture decision made after the walls are open. Tile gets ordered ahead. Special-order pieces have lead times we cannot compress once the room is torn out.

We lock the selections at the quote for this reason. If you want to change something, the moment to say so is before demo, not on day three.

Our side of the prep

  • Floor and doorway protection along the whole work path
  • Demo, debris, and haul-off, including the old tub or surround
  • Waterproofing, substrate, tile, grout, and silicone
  • Daily cleanup and a final walk-through where you check the corners

Two owners run the job. Tyler and Brian are the ones in your house, not a sales rep and a rotating crew, so the person you asked a question of on Monday is the person answering on Thursday.
